![]() We just need to install the 64-bit version of a plug-in on the FileMaker Server 13 and run the script which uses the plug-in functions using Perform Script on Server. Yes, we can implement almost all tasks related to plug-ins in iPad and iPhone using this powerful script step “Perform Script on Server”. But it was a dream for FileMaker developers to implement the same feature in either iPad or iPhone as plug-ins are not compatible with iOS devices. In many projects, we find the need of plug-ins to accomplish different tasks. I have mentioned some of those scenarios below: PSoS can be used extensively to overcome many drawbacks which we were facing in earlier versions of FileMaker. It supports script parameters and script results up to one million characters. ![]() Use the Get(ScriptResult) function to capture a result or the Get(LastError) function to capture an error code. “Wait for completion” must be selected to pass a script result or error code from the host to the client. Wait for completion pauses the script on the client until the sub-script called by Perform Script On Server is completed on the host. If it is unchecked, then the parent script can proceed in it’s execution without depending upon the result of child script. It is mainly checked when the parent script depends upon the result of child script to proceed further in its execution. ![]() If it is checked, then the parent script has to wait for the child script (subscript which is being called using PSoS) to complete it’s operation. This option is by default checked and also allows users to uncheck it. Here we can find an option “Wait for completion” that comes along with Perform Script on Server. Similarly, we can trigger a script using PSoS from FileMaker menu command. Perform Script On Server Īs we can see above, we can use it as a script step in FileMaker client script or we can use it in a button setup to run a script on server. Lets me get into more details about PSoS. In my view, its one of the predominant features that has been introduced in the latest version of FileMaker. There’s a new way of running scripts in FileMaker Server 13 by sending request from Pro client to FileMaker server. With everyday progresses, I am getting more and more opportunities to explore the new Perform Script on Server feature in FileMaker13 and each time it’s making me more curious than the previous one. As we all know, server scheduling or running of a script from the FileMaker server is much faster to execute than from a FileMaker Pro client,so it’s time to accelerate the process by using the most beautiful feature provided by FileMaker13 i.e. Say STOP to waiting for a long process to complete in FileMaker13 applications.
